Position Statement
The profession has advanced rapidly since its inception and with great energy over the past quarter century. We are known in medical, educational, and research communities, and continue in our efforts to become an autonomously recognized stakeholder amongst healthcare professionals and the consumers we serve. We must establish a clear and consistent voice of audiology, and build alliances with professional and consumer organizations to lend support to our needs.

Priorities include:

  • Direct access is a critical avenue to our future as independent providers and it provides more cost-effective hearing health care to consumers.
  • Evidence-based practice and collection of outcome data is critical to improve reimbursement, professional recognition, and increased research funding.
  • Academic programs, clinical sites, and preceptors must adhere to high and consistent standards in AuD training.
  • Advocacy is in the hands of every audiologist. We must continually tell our story to increase awareness of the value of our services.
  • Public awareness must focus on consumers, health-care providers, and future professionals. We must increase knowledge of our profession and our impact on speech-language development, education, and quality of life.

I would be honored to continue to work with our dedicated and talented professional leaders, on behalf of each and every audiologist, to achieve our professional goals.
