The Academy Remembers a Legend: Les Paul Dies at Age 94

Les Paul, one of America's most revered guitarists, and a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar, died August 12, 2009, at the age of 94 in White Plains, NY. In addition to the electric guitar, Les also was an inventor of recording techniques, including the multi-track recorder, electronic echo, and the “whammy” bar. He was featured on the cover of September/October 2008 issue of AT, in an interview regarding his hearing loss and many years of hearing aid use. He is responsible for changing the way that rock and roll sounds, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him, heard him, or played his inventions.
