CPT codes 92541, 92542, 92544, and 92545 can now be filed separately, if only two or three of these procedures are performed on the same date of service!
If only one, two, or three of the single vestibular codes that comprise the new bundled CPT code 92540 (basic vestibular evaluation) are performed, only one, two, or three procedures will be able to be filed individually, effective October 1, 2010. The single vestibular codes are 92541, 92542, 92544 and 92545. The Academy has worked diligently on having the Correct Coding Initiatives lifted, which prevented two or more of these individual codes from being filed separately if not all four tests included in the bundle were performed. When filing a claim for 1-3 of the individual codes, you will need to append the -59 modifier to indicate that the individual tests performed are a distinct procedural service. This will need to be added for each of the individual codes billed.
