Position Statement
I believe the future is bright for our profession, including generalists and sub-specialists. For example, we made the2009 US News & World Report Best Careerslist. Our line of work provides a variety of direct patient contact settings for clinicians. Opportunities exist for relevant translational research across our clinical domains, so support and funding should continue to be realized. Given our typical cases, I believe that general practitioners could become a component of the primary careMedical Homemodel. Further, I support all plausible efforts to improve pay for clinical audiologists, as there are clinical professions with fewer educational requirements and disproportionately higher income potential.
Practitioners require on-going education to sustain a diversity of skill-sets needed to properly evaluate, differentiate, and manage our most complex cases. The use of creative learning environments is crucial for our clinicians.
I envision three primary opportunities for improvement:

  • Expansion of our continuing education platforms,
  • Enhancement of relationships with our patient-referral sources, and
  • Mentoring of our junior clinicians and scientists.

I am also a proponent for collaboration with other national-level allied health organizations. So, if you share similar interests, you may wish to support me; otherwise, I completely understand if your views are dissimilar.
