Academy Attends Meeting of State Licensure Boards
On September 15-16, 2017, the National Council of State Boards of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (NCSB) gathered in New Orleans, LA for their 30th annual meeting focused on current trending issues within the licensure community and how State Licensure Boards can ensure that they are in compliance with regulations administered by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC). The Academy attended as an exhibitor allowing for interaction with key state audiology licensure board members.
Rick Masters, one of the nation’s leading experts on interstate compact law served as the Keynote Speaker for the event. Mr. Masters works as Special Counsel to the National Center for Interstate Compacts, an organization closely affiliated with the Council of State Governments, and he will be involved with developing the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact. Other sessions focused on current and future threats to state licensure in general and common issues that many Boards deal with.
The NCSB serves as an excellent resource for states and provides a platform for representatives from state audiology licensure boards to come together to discuss current trends in licensure and to look ahead as the regulatory climate changes. If your state is currently not a member of this organization, the Academy would encourage you to reach out to the NCSB via their website and inquire about the membership.
