Alabama Academy of Audiology Spotlight

October 19, 2018 State Relations News

The Alabama Academy of Audiology held its annual convention September 27–29 and saw an increase in attendance from previous years. Audiologists from several states attended the Tier I approved CEU meeting, with keynote speakers including Drs. Linda Hood, Richard Roberts, and Jeanette Fitzke. Alabama has three AuD programs and students from all three programs attended and volunteered throughout the conference. ALAA plans to include a student poster session at next year’s convention that will foster a learning experience for the students, encouraging them to strive for AAA poster presentations.

2018 provided ALAA the opportunity to lobby against and see proposed Act 2018-448, HB 139 defeated.  This bill included a requirement for repair or refund regardless of age for assistive devices that cost more than $5,000. The ALAA board continues to closely monitor and discuss OTC amplification regulations, IP captioned telephone service processes, and other current audiology concerns.

The 2019 ALAA conference is scheduled for October 17–19 at the Hilton Sandestin in sunny Sandestin, Florida. All are welcomed to join us, updates will be posted on  Please follow us at Alabama Academy of Audiology (ALAA) on Facebook.
