Congressional Resolution Recognizing World Hearing Day Introduced

February 16, 2018 Government Relations News

In a move acknowledging the importance of hearing health care, Representatives David McKinley (R-WV) and Mike Thompson (D-CA) introduced a resolution designating March 3rd as World Hearing Day. While the resolution does not change federal policy, it will allow a platform for the Academy to continue to press ahead on legislative priorities in the 115th Congress, including the Medicare Telehealth Parity Act, the Access to Frontline Health Care Act, increased funding for NIH, and protecting audiology practice within the Department of Veterans Affairs. “World Hearing Day is an important reminder that hearing loss transcends borders,” said Academy President Jackie Clark, PhD after the resolution was introduced. “With a projected increase in the prevalence of hearing loss, we need a global call to action to address the need for preventive action and access to professional and rehabilitative services. The American Academy of Audiology applauds the efforts of Representatives McKinley and Thompson to recognize World Hearing Day through the resolution, and we thank them for their continued leadership of the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus.”
