What are CEUs and why do we need them?
CEUs are Continuing Education Units. Some organizations may refer to them as Certificate Maintenance Hours (CMHs). CEUs are an avenue through which audiologist keep up with current research, technology and best practice models. One CEU is equivalent to ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education/training experience under responsible qualified direction and instruction.
Conferences, seminars or lectures will typically offer hours that will qualify for CEUs. Always keep track of your CEU hours, as you may be audited. In the case of an audit, you may be required to prove your attendance at these sessions. Documentation is provided by several organizations in the form of a certificate.
Some organizations require CEU's; others do not. Often, you must obtain CEUs in order to fulfill state licensure requirements. In order to ensure that you are meeting the requirements, be sure to check with organization or licensing body for specific details.
