Academy Participates in Hearing on the Hill
On May 16th, Academy members and staff participated in "Hearing on the Hill", an educational event designed to generate awareness of hearing health and discuss the importance of those issues with Senators and Representatives in Congress. This event, hosted by the Hearing Industries Association (HIA), was held at the Library of Congress and offered hearing screenings and educational materials for participants. The day's events were centered around the introduction of the Hearing Aid Assistance Tax Credit Act (H.R. 2329, S. 1410), which would provide a $500 tax credit for the purchase of a hearing aid by those 55 and older and dependent children (see related story). Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Representatives Vern Ehlers (R-MI), Jim Walsh (R-NY), and Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) spoke on the significance of raising hearing health awareness on Capitol Hill.
To celebrate the success of the day, the Academy brought in Ben Jackson to perform his hit, "Turn it to the Left." This performance earned a warm reception from Congressional Members and staff and reinforced the importance of hearing loss prevention and awareness.
