Audiology Representative to Serve on AMA RUC Workgroup
Dr. Paul Pessis, AuD, the primary audiology representative to the American Medical Association (AMA) Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC) has been selected by RUC Chair, Dr. Peter K. Smith, to serve on the RUC's Multi-Specialty Points of Comparison (MPC) Workgroup. This group is charged with maintaining the list of codes which is used to compare relativity of codes under review to existing relative values. Ensuring a robust, accurate, and updated list of MPC codes is a critically important to the RUC survey process. This also represents the first time that an Academy representative has held a workgroup or committee position within the RUC structure.
Dr. Pessis is a member of the Academy's Practice Policy Advisory Council (PPAC). The PPAC, chaired by Dr. Kadyn Williams, AuD, is charged with representing the Academy, and the profession of audiology, before the AMA RUC, RUC HCPAC, and CPT Editorial Panel. The PPAC presents and revises CPT codes, and then works to organize, promote and protect the valuation of audiology services and procedures at the RUC. The PPAC collaborates with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), as well as other specialties including otolaryngology (AAO-HNS) and neurology (AAN) to ensure strong representation in these arenas.
