The best thing about starting a presidency in October is that I get to start my year in the best month for audiologists, Audiology Awareness Month, and there is a lot happening! Audiology Awareness Month is a great opportunity to do grassroots public relations work. Be sure to check the Academy website for Audiology Awareness Month resources such as press releases, fact sheets, and social media posts to get the word out about how great our profession is!
Mark your calendars for the Audiology Research Conference (ARC) on October 24, 2024. The conference, titled Advances in Implantable Devices, will focus on the latest developments in auditory implant technology and innovation. This is a virtual event, allowing participants from all over to join and learn about groundbreaking clinical and research advancements.
Additionally, the Call for Abstracts is open for AAA 2025+HearTECH Expo, which will take place in New Orleans. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals to share their expertise in both clinical practice and research. Various presentation formats are available, including learning modules, mini modules, research podiums, and student research forums. Abstracts for these formats are due by October 11, while poster submissions are due by November 12. If you’re interested in contributing your knowledge and advancing the field of audiology, don’t miss this chance! You can find more information on submission guidelines and deadlines here.
In addition to these exciting events, this month is a prime time to recognize your colleagues by nominating them for one of the nine available honors and awards, or for a position on the Board of Directors. Recipients of the prestigious honors and awards will be celebrated in a special featured session at AAA 2025. If you know a deserving audiologist who has made significant contributions to the field, consider submitting a nomination. The deadline for nominations is October 11. Similarly, if you or a colleague has the leadership skills to guide the future of audiology, consider nominating for a position on the Board of Directors. Both the member-at-large and president-elect positions are currently open for nominations. This is a critical time to step up and shape the future of the profession! Take advantage of Audiology Awareness Month by engaging in these opportunities to learn, share, and lead in the audiology community.
