The events of this past year have, for many, led to increased anxiety, grief, depression, stress, and isolation. At such times, it can be difficult to feel grateful. However, in such times, gratitude is most needed.

ONLINE FEATURE | COVID-19 “Long-Haulers:” The Emergence of Auditory/Vestibular Problems After Medical Intervention

As of October 9, 2020, Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) in the United States reported over seven million documented cases of COVID-19 and over 212,000 deaths since the virus was first identified in this country in January 2020 (2020). 

Early in the pandemic, the medical profession, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute of Health (NIH), and both federal and state governments worked 24/7 to develop testing protocols and intervention strategies (pharmacological management and vaccines).

COVID Tracking Project Provides Daily 50-State Testing and Outcomes Data

The COVID Tracking Project is a volunteer organization launched from The Atlantic and dedicated to collecting and publishing the data required to understand the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States. Data is collected everyday on testing and patient outcomes in all 50 states, five territories and the District of Columbia. This dataset is currently used by national and local news organizations across the US and by research projects and agencies worldwide.

ONLINE FEATURE | COVID-19’s Impact on the AuD Student Clinician Experience

Now more than ever, infection control is one of the most widely discussed topics in any health-care environment. Infection control guidelines are changing rapidly, affecting the student clinician experience. 

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Infection (CDC) guidelines, perhaps the most influential way to slow the spread of COVID-19 is minimizing the number of people in a space at a given time. Many medical settings have reduced the quantity of individuals allowed in the facility at once which often means fewer, if any, students.

The Academy and Other Provider Groups Call Upon Congress to Block Expected 2021 Medicare Cuts

The 2021 Proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule was released earlier this week (August 3) and the Academy has prepared a summary for members to review.  

In this proposed rule, CMS reiterated its plan to move forward with cuts to a wide variety of providers—both physician and non-physician—to counterbalance increases to primary care providers.

This review was conducted over a three-week period and used review methods in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analysis guidelines.
