Overview

The purpose of this program is to support research that will shape best practices in audiology to benefit musicians and others in the music industry. Funded by the American Academy of Audiology Foundation and the generous funding of Dr. Michael Santucci, this program complements the Academy’s clinical consensus document Audiological Services for Musicians and Music Industry Personnel.

Awards of up to $10,000 will be made. The grant program is open to all audiologist investigators, including student investigators. Eligibility criteria and submission details are available in the Investigator Guidelines document. To submit an application, go to the grant program submission site.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Submit a letter from the chair supporting dedicated time to the project.
  • Applicants must have a faculty appointment at a non-profit tax-exempt institution in the United States or Canada, public or private, as this is where grant funds will be issued, and both AuD and PhD applicants are encouraged to apply.

    • Submit IRB approval
  • Applicant must not have a significant source of research funding (e.g., federal funding from NIH or NSF) in the area of music and hearing research.
  • (Optional) Applicant may have a mentor with expertise in the research area to be investigated or request guidance in identifying a mentor who will be prepared to foster the advancement in the development and prosecution of the research. For new investigators with less than 3 years research experience, a mentor is recommended.

Student Investigator Eligibility

  • Must be a doctoral student working towards a doctoral degree in audiology or hearing science who is completing a research project as a part of their course of study.
  • Must be a doctoral student who is currently enrolled in a non-profit tax-exempt institution in the United States or Canada, public or private, as this is where grant funds will be issued.
  • Must be the primary researcher to conduct the research project under the advice and guidance of a mentor.
  • (Required) Applicant must have a mentor with expertise in the research area to be investigated or request guidance in identifying a mentor who will be prepared to foster the advancement in the development and prosecution of the research.
