Grand Rounds

This year’s Grand Rounds series includes six sessions each featuring a seasoned moderator and four presenters. During these sessions, four complex clinical cases, research findings, or new treatment protocols will be discussed.

Grand rounds serve not only as a platform for knowledge sharing but also as an opportunity for professional development, networking, and fostering a collaborative spirit among healthcare providers.

Featured Sessions

When Objective Tests Don’t Agree — Navigate complex diagnostic findings involving ABR, OAEs, acoustic reflexes, electrocochleography (ECoG), and behavioral testing.

Exploration of Complex Otologic Cases — Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration by exploring complex otologic cases and learn how neurotologists integrate symptoms, imaging, and lab findings to approach auditory and vestibular function disorders and conditions.

Interprofessional Panel: Integrating Cognitive Factors into Audiologic Care of Older Adults

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related disorders are a significant health issue which impacts many patients and their families. Recent developments include improved biomarkers for diagnosis, new medical treatments, and greater attention to modifiable risk factors. This interdisciplinary session provides foundational knowledge and practical suggestions in managing AD in clinical care. We review the common types of dementia including new tests for AD diagnosis; the important roles of hearing sensitivity and social communication; and how hearing loss impacts dementia risk, the diagnostic process, and family interactions. We also discuss the audiologist’s role in identifying, referring, and counseling patients with cognitive concerns.

When Clinical Recommendations Meet Real Life: Person-Centered Care as Ethical Practice

Person-centered care builds on clinical expertise to understand the person and relevant life circumstances in determining practical, evidence-based options. This interactive session explores how person-centered care fits within the broader ethical responsibilities of audiologists, with particular attention to dignity, best interest, and the exchange of information. Participants will examine what ethical care requires when the option that best fits the person differs from what is standard, familiar, or easiest for the healthcare setting or payer. Through case studies and small group discussions, participants will apply concepts to situations and leave the session with ready-to-implement strategies for implementation of person-centered care.

Hearing Aids in Review 2026

Presenters: Catherine Palmer, PhD, Gus Mueller, PhD, and Ryan McCreery, PhD

Hearing Aid-related literature from 2026 will be reviewed through the lens of what matters to a practicing clinician. Categories that are addressed include pre-fitting, hearing aid selection, verification, pediatrics and outcome assessment. The session will end with "What can I do on Monday morning" based on the findings from the most recent year of investigations.
