Govern and lead audiology initiatives and the Academy’s strategic priorities. You can be a change agent and thought leader that guides the profession through serving in a high-level volunteer role, such as a council chair or as an Academy Board member. You can get a great start by participating in the Jerger Future Leaders of Audiology Conference (JFLAC), which develops your leadership skills, expands your confidence, and affords you numerous mentoring and networking opportunities. This conference is only offered every other year, but is a meaningful way to hone in on your leadership skills and enhance your future in audiology.

You also can consider recognizing leaders in the field who have made significant contributions to the field through the Academy Honors and Awards program.

Levels of Experience

No Experience Necessary

Most subcommittee and committee opportunities do not require prior volunteer experience unless otherwise noted. The Academy is always looking for energetic and passionate members to help us move the profession forward.

Some Experience Desired

Writing groups, select committees, task forces, and chair roles may require subject-matter expertise depending upon the activities or topic areas. The Academy will identify the needs for these opportunities. If you are unsure about being the right fit, do not hesitate to reach out to the Academy staff liaison to inquire more about the opportunity that interests you.

More Experience Desired

Participation in the Jerger Future Leaders of Audiology Conference (JFLAC), application for Academy president-elect, and other select opportunities do require more experience. JFLAC is geared toward mid-career professionals, 6-15 years of working experience. Again, if you are unsure about being the right fit, do not hesitate to reach out to the Academy staff liaison to inquire more about the opportunity that interests you.

Note: There are few volunteer positions and activities that require prior experience. Be courageous and jump right in!
