Dr. Colleen Le Prell is the Emilie and Phil Schepps professor of hearing science at the University of Texas at Dallas, chair of the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing, and head of the PhD Program in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She actively mentors AuD and PhD students and she teaches graduate-level coursework in the anatomy and physiology of the auditory system, hearing loss prevention, and auditory pharmacology.

Translational research in Dr. Le Prell’s laboratory is directed at prevention of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) with research projects ranging from preclinical work identifying mechanisms of NIHL to clinical trials evaluating potential prevention of human NIHL. She has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, several foundations, and industry, resulting in approximately 70 peer-reviewed articles, 19 book chapters, and 3 edited books to date.

Dr. Le Prell is highly engaged in hearing loss prevention activities. She previously served as president for the National Hearing Conservation Association, is currently a member of the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Hearing Loss Prevention Cross Sector Council, and she is an invited participant in annual consultations of the World Health Organization – International Telecommunication Union (WHO-ITU) “Make Listening Safe” campaign.
