How Can You Impact the Future of Audiology?

  • Academy News
  • Foundation News

The Academy’s Foundation is YOUR Foundation!

As a member of the American Academy of Audiology, you have stayed on top of evolving, evidence-based treatment that assists you in providing the highest quality of care to your patients. At the same time, you have the opportunity to build a network of colleagues who support and challenge you to be your best.

The Foundation and the Academy leadership are excited about future opportunities for researchers, students, and the audiology profession as a whole. You can be a part of this by making a donation to the Foundation, supporting research, education, and public awareness.

The funds raised by the Foundation are used to provide research grants and scholarships for exemplary professionals and students, put on lectures with audiology pioneers, and experts, and more! All these efforts help YOU continue to succeed and practice at the highest level possible.

The Foundation wants to strengthen the profession, YOUR profession, here’s how:

Research

The Foundation invests in research grants that strengthen the practice of audiology and improve the excellence of patient care. Did you know that through 2020, $11 million in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant funding was a direct result of the Foundation’s grant programs? NIH programs funded in part by the Foundation over several years jumpstarted pilot research and helped projects to continue and receive more grant money.

The Foundation awards over $32,000 in grants each year through its six grant programs.

Even with all this, we know we can do better! We need your help to provide even larger, more IMPACTFUL, research grants.

Education

The Foundation provides scholarships to audiology students to grow the number of trained, practicing audiologists available to provide care to our patients. We currently provide over $66,000 in funding through six scholarship programs. This includes the esteemed Jerry Northern Pediatric Scholarships and the Empowering Students Scholarships (philanthropic support provided by the Oticon, Inc.).

Oticon President, Gary Rosenblum, presents the Empowering Students Scholarship check to the Foundation and Student Academy of Audiology leadership.

If you attended AAA 2022+HearTech in St. Louis, we hope you had the opportunity to attend the 16th annual Marion Downs Lecture in Pediatric Audiology. Arie Nettles, PhD, professor of clinical pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, presented on Bias, Equity, and Early Childhood Development. Philanthropic support provided by the Oticon Foundation, this annual lecture continues to be a flagship educational event.

With your help, we can expand our offerings! The Foundation would like to increase the number of student travel grants it funds each year. This would allow students the unique opportunity to further their education, learn about cutting-edge technology, and network with mentors and leaders in the field.

Dr. Arie Nettles accepts her award for the 2022 Marion Downs Lecture.

Public Awareness

The Foundation provides support to the Academy in its efforts to help inform and educate consumers about hearing health care and audiology.

To this effort, the Foundation played an integral part in the two-year effort to raise funds for the “Find an Audiologist Directory” initiative, which resulted in contributions totaling $118,000. The Foundation will continue to work closely with the American Academy of Audiology to align with its goals and initiatives in the future.

How can you impact your profession? Make a donation today to support YOUR Foundation.
