I am Brenna Carroll, AuD, the 2023 program committee chair and I am excited to share my home city for the AAA 2023+HearTECH Expo in Seattle, Washington, April 19-22.
Seattle is a city home to innovation and has been on the forefront of visionary adaptations from music to technology and industry. This is a fitting host for the conference as audiology adapts to patient care in a post COVID world. We are entering a new era of audiology with the introduction of government-regulated over-the-counter hearing aids, new research on pharmacological treatments for hearing loss, and promotion of the full range of services provided by audiologists. The conference is your professional home and will provide you with information, resources, connections, and tools to adapt to this new reality and keep your practice setting up to date.
The AAA annual conference is the perfect opportunity to enhance your understanding and involvement in advocacy. For example, the proposed Medicare Audiologist Access and Services Act, also known as H.R. 1587/S. 1731, has substantial bi-partisan support in congress. Passage has a significant impact on not only how patients access care, but also how we as audiologists are reimbursed for the critical services we provide. Responding and adapting to these reconstructions are opportunities. Join the Academy in influencing and directing the future of audiology care. Learn how you can become involved in implementation and advocacy at sessions offered at the conference.
These important resources will be available in addition to education on coding and billing, research updates, new breakthrough technologies from our industry partners and collaboration through networking events with your peers and colleagues. There is no substitute for meeting in person with colleagues in both educational and in social settings.
So plan on heading to Seattle, April 19-22, 2023, to take advantage of these opportunities. Stroll through Pike Place market, share a drink with friends at one of the city’s many microbreweries, recharge with coffee at the original Starbucks, and take in the views of the Emerald City from the Spaceneedle.
It is not too early to start your plans to attend the premier meeting for audiology and I look forward to seeing you in Seattle next year.
