We kicked off day two of AAA 2024+HearTECH Expo with a morning of educational sessions. A wide range of topics were covered, including the featured session, Beyond the Audiogram: Embracing Diversity in Patient Communication, presented by Laura Gaeta, PhD, and Grand Rounds on Adult Diagnostics with Jodi Baxter, AuD, and team.
After a busy morning, attendees gathered for an unforgettable Opening General Session. Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP, best-selling author, professor, and recipient of the National Humanities Medal, took the stage and delivered a powerful keynote message, titled A Doctor’s Touch. Dr. Verghese discussed how modern medicine is in danger of losing a powerful, old-fashioned tool—human touch. Throughout the talk, Dr. Verghese argued for a vision of humanistic medicine in the modern age: care grounded in caring and the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship.
