A Keynote to Remember

  • AAA Convention

We kicked off day two of AAA 2024+HearTECH Expo with a morning of educational sessions. A wide range of topics were covered, including the featured session, Beyond the Audiogram: Embracing Diversity in Patient Communication, presented by Laura Gaeta, PhD, and Grand Rounds on Adult Diagnostics with Jodi Baxter, AuD, and team.

After a busy morning, attendees gathered for an unforgettable Opening General Session. Abraham Verghese, MD, MACP, best-selling author, professor, and recipient of the National Humanities Medal, took the stage and delivered a powerful keynote message, titled A Doctor’s Touch. Dr. Verghese discussed how modern medicine is in danger of losing a powerful, old-fashioned tool—human touch. Throughout the talk, Dr. Verghese argued for a vision of humanistic medicine in the modern age: care grounded in caring and the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship.

Looking Ahead

Get ready for another busy afternoon at AAA 2024. Stop by the HearTECH Expo for our Professional Headshot Studio (sponsored by ReSound). Visit the Best Practices Pavilion (equipment provided by Grason-Stadler) for mini-modules and hands-on practice with aided speech recognition.

Hear the Future Forecast—Audiology Under Siege: Industry and Audiologists Working Together to Safeguard and Promote the Profession, Now and in the Future…in the Hub at 5:00 pm. And of course, don’t forget the Wine and Cheese Reception in the hall at 6:00 pm and the AAA’s Not-So-Secret After Party this evening at 9:00 pm in the Omni—no tickets needed!
