Join this engaging session to discuss new research as it relates to the epidemiology and risk factors associated with falls as well as assessment tools and intervention methods. Additionally, we will discuss the potential role of hearing loss and cognitive issues and their association with falls.
Cognitive Screenings in Practice
Wednesday, April 17, 8:00–11:30 am
Presented by Karah Gottschalk, AuD, PhD

Research trends over the past few decades have suggested some type of relationship between hearing loss and cognitive changes. This growing literature has prompted audiologists to start completing cognitive screeners in clinics.
This session will include information about the six different cognitive domains, normal versus non-normative cognitive changes with age, and current cognitive screenings that are available. Additionally, there will be a hands-on session on completing and grading cognitive screeners.
Optimization in Cochlear Implant Programming Using Electrically Evoked Stapedial Reflex Threshold Measurements
Wednesday, April 17, 8:00–11:30 am
Presented by Sandra Velandia, AuD
Earn 0.3 CEUs
The lack of consensus on cochlear implant programming methods presents challenges for patients with hearing deprivation, pediatric cases, and elderly individuals due to difficulties in judging loudness and pitch. Recent research recommends using electrically evoked stapedial reflex thresholds (eSRTs) to set appropriate stimulation levels, improving comfort, speech discrimination, and reducing cognitive effort during daily listening tasks. Join this informative session to perform eSRTs, utilize them to set stimulation levels, and optimize programming for cochlear implant recipients based on threshold measurements and clinical cases.
