Seasonal Shifts in Audiology

Message from the Chair

  • ABA News

Here in Minnesota, the buds are finally sprouting on trees, my lawn is slowly getting green, frogs and birds are singing to me on my daily walk, and my bulbs have bloomed. You can walk outside without three layers of clothing and there’s a promise of longer, warmer days ahead. I felt this same sense of excitement and invigoration after AAA 2025+HearTECH Expo in New Orleans.

This was an exceptional conference filled with innovative technology, cutting-edge research, thought-provoking Grand Rounds presentations and student-led poster sessions. It was an opportunity for audiologists from all around the world to network, learn, discuss, and, of course, pet puppies! Standout sessions this year included the new Audiology Assistant Track and the Beyond the Booth series, reminding us that there’s more to our professional lives than an audiometer and hearing aids!

In this season of change, the ABA is evolving as well. During our Meet and Greet, I was delighted to hear feedback from audiologists about the new Vestibular Audiology Specialty Certification (VASC) and Certificate Holder-Educational Audiology (CH-EdAud) programs coming later this year. I also had the pleasure of presenting to the Student Audiology Association and showcasing the New Professionals Toolkit web page for students and new audiology professionals.

Before you head outside for some springtime adventures, the Vestibular Audiology Specialty Certification application opens on May 1 to participate in the beta exam from August 8–18. If you’re interested in the work the ABA is doing to improve credentials and empower audiologists, there are openings on the Board for new members. We’d especially like to encourage audiologists who specialize in cochlear implants to consider applying. For more information or to submit an application, click here.  Thank you again to everyone who made AAA 2025+HearTECH Expo such a success! Please enjoy the longer days and warmer weather ahead!
