Message from the
Chair of the American
Board of Audiology: August 2021

Coming Soon—CH-AP Update!

Calling all preceptors and certificate holders in audiology precepting: a new, fifth CH-AP educational module will be live in fall 2021!

A stellar group of volunteer subject matter experts—Erica Friedland, AuD; Tony Joseph, AuD, PhD; Kali Markle, AuD; Charlotte Mullen, AuD; Diane Novak, AuD; and Hannah Siburt, AuD, PhD—came together to develop this module which includes presentations and video scenarios about managing roles and professionalism in the clinic, ethics and communication, diversity and social issues, and student-preceptor relationship building.

In addition to this material, more resources have been added to the already extensive toolbox, like references, sample diversity plans, and additional scenarios. All the critical information you need about precepting will be available to you in the complete program (Modules 1–5) for which you will earn Tier 1 CEUs.

If you currently hold the CH-AP certificate, completion of the new Module 5 will be required to extend your certificate an additional five years. Module 5 will cost $75 for Academy members and ABA certificants, and $100 for non-members; Tier 1 CEUs will be gained upon completion. Access to the full CH-AP toolbox for will be available 12 months after purchasing Module 5. Notices from the ABA regarding your certificate expiration will be sent beginning 60 days prior to expiration with information about how to register for Module 5 to extend your certificate.

On a personal note, my term as the Chair of ABA comes to a close on September 30, so I will be transferring this column over to the capable hands of Dr. Sandra Gabbard, who will become Chair of ABA on October 1, 2021. I have enjoyed my time as Chair and am so grateful to the staff for their hard work and for all the dedicated audiologists who have volunteered their time to the mission of elevating the professional practice of audiology and advancing patient care.

Have a happy and healthy end of the summer.

Cheryl Edwards, AuD
