In 2022, the Academy charged its Ethical Practices Committee (EPC) to review the Academy’s Code of Ethics to consider if any revisions were necessitated by the introduction of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. This inquiry led to a general review of the code by the EPC who also sought to include members’ use of social media within the scope of the Code.
The updated Code of Ethics was approved by the Academy board in April 2023 and provides better clarity, is relevant to current practice, and has modified language for congruence with other resources within the Academy. Because the ABA operates within the scope of the Academy, the ABA Code of Ethics has been updated to reflect that of the Academy. The updated ABA Code of Ethics was approved by the ABA board in May 2023.
The ABA Code of Ethics must be adhered to by all who hold an ABA certification (ABAC, PASC, CISC) whether they are Academy members or not. Download a copy of the updated ABA Code of Ethics.
