What do you/did you love the most about your job?
I recently became a private practice owner, and I love it! My experiences in audiologist-owned practices and my externship really shaped how I care for patients and showed me the difference empathic, patient-focused care can make. I enjoy working with patients of all ages, and what I love most is that I can truly be myself with my patients—empathetic, approachable, and genuine—without any facade. Being able to make decisions that genuinely help my patients and seeing their positive experiences is incredibly rewarding.
What company or organization do you work for right now? If you’re retired, where did you last work?
Rose Audiology
What’s a project you’re working on right now? Why is it meaningful to you?
I am working on creating our cochlear implant and vestibular program at Rose Audiology.
How has your career benefited from being a member of the Academy?
I was a student member since undergrad and I felt so welcome at AAA conventions. It made me feel like I was entering into a really supportive and wonderful field before I even applied to grad school. I loved having the opportunity to present research at AAA several years in a row.
Any tips or advice for new members on how to best leverage their Academy membership?
I recommend asking questions! I am the first to admit I like to figure things out on my own, but you don’t have to. There is always someone who will guide you and help you feel like you have a community regardless of where you work or what stage of audiology you are in. I wanted to teach and asked AAA how best to do that and I was sent a ton of resources for example and became an affiliate professor using their guidance.
