About Dr. Maggu

What are your clinical interests?

My clinical interests center on auditory processing, hearing difficulties in complex listening environments, and evidence-based approaches to assessment and intervention. I am especially interested in improving access to clinically meaningful tools that help identify and support individuals with listening challenges across the lifespan.

What do you/did you love the most about your job?

What I value most is the opportunity to do work that can directly improve people’s lives while also contributing to the broader field. I also enjoy mentoring students and trainees and helping shape the next generation of clinicians and researchers.

What company or organization do you work for right now? If you’re retired, where did you last work?

I currently work as an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut. My work integrates research, teaching, and service, with a focus on advancing hearing and auditory care through both scientific and clinical perspectives.

What’s a project you’re working on right now? Why is it meaningful to you?

I am currently working on a project supported by an AAA Foundation award focused on improving remote tools for auditory processing screening and intervention. This work is especially meaningful to me because it has the potential to expand access to evidence-based care, reduce barriers for patients and families, and help bring practical solutions to individuals with listening difficulties who may otherwise go underserved.

How has your career benefited from being a member of the Academy?

Being a member of the Academy has helped me stay connected to developments in the field, learn from colleagues with diverse expertise, and engage with a strong professional community. It has also provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, continuing education, and professional growth.

Any tips or advice for new members on how to best leverage their Academy membership?

My advice would be to be intentional and active: attend meetings, participate in interest groups, seek out mentors, and make connections with colleagues whose work aligns with your interests. The more you engage with the Academy’s educational and networking opportunities, the more value you will get from your membership.
