Sajana Aryal, PhD, ABAC, is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the University of Iowa. She earned her Ph.D. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin and her master’s degree in Audiology from the University of Mysore.

Her research focuses on cochlear physiology and translational auditory neuroscience, with the goal of improving the early identification and intervention of auditory dysfunction. She also investigates the mechanisms underlying decreased sound tolerance disorders, particularly misophonia and hyperacusis. Her work aims to better understand how auditory processing and emotion regulation contribute to sound sensitivity. Her research has been published in leading audiology and auditory neuroscience journals and has been recognized with national and international research awards.

Sajana is also a licensed and certified audiologist in both the United States and Nepal, with more than 10 years of experience in the field. She is committed to advancing hearing health research and practice in low- and middle-income countries. Through her involvement with the International Society of Audiology and Global Audiology, she has gained a broader understanding of audiology practice across diverse healthcare systems and resource settings. She is committed to expanding evidence-based practice and strengthening hearing healthcare in her home country, Nepal. As a Research Scientist at the Nepal Centre for Cognition and Society and a clinician with शब्द-Health, she works to bridge scientific evidence with clinical practice, public education, and community-based hearing healthcare.
