Earlier this year, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), issued a request for information (RFI) on Medicare Advantage (MA) data. This feedback from the public will be used to enhance MA data capabilities and increase public transparency. Transparency holds substantially more significance as MA enrollment surpasses 50 percent of Medicare, with the government slated to allocate more than $7 trillion to MA health insurance companies in the coming decade.
The RFI seeks information from stakeholders about care access, provider networks, prior authorization, supplemental benefits, value-based care arrangements, health equity, marketing, and care quality. In addition, the RFI seeks feedback on healthy competition in the Medicare Advantage market, the effects of vertical integration, and how to improve data collection and release methods. The Academy plans to submit its comments to the Federal Register by May 29, ahead of the deadline.
