Introduction
Children are often fit with advanced hearing technology, including digital signal processing algorithms and directional microphones, to support speech recognition and awareness of sounds in all environments, including degraded listening situations. Although these technological advancements improve audibility and speech recognition, noisy and varied acoustic environments can still be challenging and effortful, resulting in missed auditory information, important environmental cues, and increased listening fatigue (Bess et al, 2014; Schafer, 2021).
