Volunteer Opportunities

Becoming a volunteer is easy and rewarding. Submit an interest form below. When an opportunity becomes available, you will be contacted with more information.

Volunteers must be active Academy members in good standing at the time of application and throughout their volunteer term. At the beginning of an initial appointment, volunteers are required to complete a Conflict of Interest and a Code of Conduct Form. Volunteers must also submit updated COI and COC forms at the start of each new volunteer term. These forms can be easily completed by accessing the Volunteer Documentation form on the Volunteer Resources page.

Time commitments for volunteering vary depending on the opportunity. Chairs and members of councils, committees, and subcommittees typically serve three-year terms meeting once a month unless otherwise specified by the chair. Short-term opportunities, such as the AAA Conference Subcommittees last only up to a few months. Task forces and micro-volunteer opportunities are structured to address specific needs and will have defined durations for each project that will be communicated before work begins. Information collected from your Volunteer Interest Form will help us match you with the right opportunity based on your interests, goals, and availability.

When you submit an interest form, Academy staff will review the form and reach out with preliminary information and any available opportunities that best match your interests and qualifications. When a volunteer appointment becomes available, you will be contacted with further details about the opportunity. Our goal is to align you with roles that utilize your expertise and showcase your dedication, ensuring a fulfilling and impactful volunteer experience.

Yes. More experienced volunteers are eligible to take on leadership positions such as chairing, councils, and subcommittees, leading task forces, or serving as a member on the Academy’s Board of Directors. These roles allow volunteers to further develop their leadership skills while contributing to the Academy’s. Leadership opportunities are generally provided based on a volunteer’s experience, commitment, and the evolving needs of the organization.

If you need to step down from a volunteer appointment, it is important to inform your chair or staff liaison as soon as possible. This allows them to make alternate arrangements and ensure a smooth transition. We sincerely thank you for your time and efforts as a volunteer!
