NPR Interviews Gifford About Her Work with Cochlear Implant Patients
National Public Radio's "Science Friday" launched a six-part series highlighting women in science with a 10-minute video documentary featuring Academy member Dr. Rene Gifford and her work with cochlear implant patients at Vanderbilt University.
The development of world-class talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is vital to America's continued success, and supporting women STEM students is an essential component to innovation. What better way to kick off this series than to highlight audiology as being part of the STEM fields, to stress the importance of hearing as an important health condition and to demonstrate the audiologist's role in the process of hearing restoration through cochlear implantation.
Congratulations and thank you to Dr. Gifford and her colleagues at Vanderbilt for the powerful example of WHY STEM students should consider audiology for their careers!
