Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) invited President Trump to address both chambers of Congress on March 4. While technically this is not an actual State of the Union because the President has only been in office since January 20, it is an opportunity for him to lay out his legislative agenda for Congress. The timing of the speech will be critical, as the continuing resolution (CR) will end 10 days from the date of the president’s speech. By midnight on March 14, Congress has to pass either another CR or a full budget for fiscal year 2025.
