What do you/did you love the most about your job?

There are few professions where you can change someone’s life in a single moment. As an AuD student, I strive to give children and their families hope that they can hear, learn, and connect with the world around them. I love interacting with my patients and knowing that my advocacy for their hearing health makes a meaningful difference. I’m grateful for every opportunity to learn from my patients and colleagues, and to be part of something so impactful.

What company or organization do you work for right now? If you’re retired, where did you last work?

I am the lead newborn hearing screener at HCA North Florida and UF Shands hospital. On my holiday breaks, I work at South Florida ENT Associates in Miami, Florida.

What’s a project you’re working on right now? Why is it meaningful to you?

Two of my recent goals came to life this past month. I traveled to Mérida, Mexico to serve in Project Yucatán, where a team of inspiring clinicians and future audiologists came together to serve over 900 patients and fit more than 30 hearing aids. The experience was incredibly moving and humbling—it deepened my passion for pediatric audiology and the importance of early intervention.

Shortly after returning, I was honored to present my capstone project, pediatric dizziness, at UF’s College of Public Health and Health Professions Research Day. My mission is to create a pediatric dizziness index to support physician-parent-child communication. Dizziness is a difficult symptom to describe—especially for children with emerging vocabularies and developing language skills. It was a special experience to share my work with other health professionals and bridge the gap between audiology and other disciplines, raising awareness about a condition that is often overlooked in children

How has your career benefited from being a member of the Academy?

Being a member of the Academy motivates me to seek opportunities that will strengthen my clinical skills, expand my knowledge of evidence-based practices, and connect me with leaders who are shaping the future of audiology.

Any tips or advice for new members on how to best leverage their Academy membership?

My tip for new members is to take full advantage of the Academy’s resources! Audiology is a niche field, and our profession is small—so don’t hesitate to reach out. Collaborating with like-minded professionals and students can open doors, spark ideas, and help you feel more connected within the audiology community.

Who is your hero, and why?

Kerri Strug in the 1996 Olympics is my hero. Her strength and resilience are incredibly inspiring. Even through the pain of her ankle injury, she found the strength to complete her final vault. Her love for gymnastics and her team gave her the courage to push through—showing the world what true perseverance looks like.
