About Ms. Croke

What are your clinical interests?

My clinical interests are adults without hearing loss who experience tinnitus and children with unilateral hearing loss, as well as their learning/speech outcomes.

What do you/did you love the most about your job?

The aspect of my job I love the most is getting to work with a diverse population and learn so much about different experiences, cultural views on hearing loss, and developing unique management plans for my patients.

What company or organization do you work for right now? If you’re retired, where did you last work?

I’m currently a second year audiology graduate student at the University of Iowa.

What’s a project you’re working on right now? Why is it meaningful to you?

Right now I am working on a clinical poster case study about a patient who had trouble with comprehension all of her life and was coming in as a young adult to be evaluated for auditory processing disorder/auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder. It’s focused on the test battery used to diagnose/rule out these conditions, as well as the management options and the incredible variability of outcomes for this population.

How has your career benefited from being a member of the Academy?

Being a member of the Academy has allowed me to connect with other audiologists that share similar interests as me. It has also allowed me to access the newest information in our profession, bolstering my evidence base for treating patients.

Any tips or advice for new members on how to best leverage their Academy membership?

My tip would be to reach out to others, you never know what kind of professional relationship might blossom. Audiology is a small, yet large at the same time, organization. Therefore, there is a diversity of thought and experience that can greatly benefit you as a graduate student or a practicing clinician.

The best vacation I’ve ever been on was to China. I visited Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi’An. The culture, cuisine, and architecture was incredibly diverse and beautiful.

Who is your hero, and why?

I don’t have a hero, per se, but the most impactful person in my educational and professional career has definitely been my mentor and clinical instructor Julie (Eun Kyung) Jeon. She works tirelessly as both a clinical supervisor, published author, mother, and support system for the students in the AuD program. She has truly guided me and provided endless opportunities for growth. I would not be the clinician I am today without her generosity and constant desire to teach.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Definitely being able to fly. Although I’m afraid of heights, I’m hoping I’d get over it.
