Earlier this week, the Academy submitted written testimony to the Maryland House Health and Government Operations Committee supporting the passage of HB 1298, a bill aimed at improving patient access to timely and coordinated hearing and balance health care. The proposed legislation builds on last year’s HB 464 and SB 795, which expanded the scope of practice for audiologists. HB 1298 ensures that the expanded services remain directly related to audiologists’ expertise by granting them the ability to order imaging, cultures, and bloodwork related to hearing and the ear.
Advocacy efforts like HB 1298 align with broader national initiatives to remove barriers and expand access to care, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive services without unnecessary delays. The Academy will continue to support legislative efforts that prioritize patient-centered care and professional autonomy for audiologists in Maryland and across the country.
