Dr. Michael Cevette is a Professor of Audiology in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where he has been a regarded clinician, educator, and researcher since 1987. Dr. Cevette is internationally recognized for his innovative work related to the hearing and vestibular system, having received grant funding from prestigious organizations, like NASA and the U.S. Air Force.
Dr. Cevette’s work is heavily centered on his role as co-director of the Mayo Clinic’s Aerospace Medicine and Vestibular Research Laboratory (AMVRL), which he helped develop and lead. Over the past several years, he and the AMVRL team have investigated vestibular illusions underlying spatial disorientation in the aerospace environment. His research in AMVRL also focuses on topics like motion sickness, high frequency amplification, and the use of electrical stimulation for hearing and balance purposes. His work on the “Noninvasive Cochlear Stimulation System” earned the 2021 Mayo Clinic President’s Discovery Translation Program award. This innovative work, along with many other ventures, has led to over 90 patents. Beyond his extensive research, he has served as a mentor to over 200 students and is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences. His contributions to audiology have been recognized with numerous accolades, including this year’s Clinical Excellence Award from the American Academy of Audiology.
