Pawel Jastreboff, Ph.D., Sc.D., M.B.A. is the recipient of the 2026 James Jerger Career Award for Excellence in Audiology.  His accomplishments are broad and address both research and patient treatment.  He is best known for developing the first generally accepted animal model of tinnitus, the Neurophysiological Model of Tinnitus, subsequently Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) andmost recently concept, definition and treatment for  Misophonia.  As one of Dr. Jastreboff’s nominators noted, patients with tinnitus were provided with a framework to understand why tinnitus can cause distress and how to manage it effectively based on his work on tinnitus.  The consensus of Dr. Jastrerboff’s nomination  is that he is the foremost researcher furthering the understanding of the mechanisms of tinnitus, hyperacusis, misophonia, and the clinical management of these auditory disorders.  A review of Dr. Jastreboff’s extensive vita supports the breadth and depth of his contributions to the field of audiology.  Thank you to Dr. Jastreboff for your lifetime body of work that has changed the face of tinnitus management and has been life-changing for so many people that experience tinnitus.  Your recognition of the James Jerger Carrer Award is truly deserving.
