Virginia and Arkansas recently enacted legislation making them the 24th and 25th states to join the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Licensure Compact (ASLP-IC). VA HB 2033 and AR SB 91 were signed into law by their respective governors on March 23rd and 24th.
Licensees in states that participate in the compact will soon be able to apply for a “privilege” to practice in other participating states either in-person or via tele-practice. Individuals who practice under such a privilege will be required to comply with the practice act and scope of practice of the other state. At this time, the requisite bylaws and supporting data systems that will be necessary to fully implement the compact are still under construction.
