The Academy represents audiologists in all specialties and practice settings and works toward elevating the profession and assisting you, Academy members, to provide optimal hearing and balance care. To accomplish this goal, the Academy advocates for the profession and offers education and tools for you to provide quality care and advance the profession.
An example of advocacy is the Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act. It is a federal bill that the Academy supports because it will elevate how Medicare categorizes audiologists and updates Medicare coverage policies affecting audiologists. This legislation is a key piece in the overall strategy to enhance the profession, but it is not the only way to advocate.
Other strategies include the Academy clearly articulating its policies in strategic documents and clinical guidelines for care delivery. These guidelines must be developed in accordance with best practices and be evidence-based and unambiguous. There are numerous volunteers working to update and create new strategic documents that provide clear guidance on how to provide optimal hearing and balance care. Guidelines that the Academy also can use as evidence to support advocacy initiatives.
I could go on about how the Academy is working on your behalf, but I want to hear from you on how we are doing on the issues that you have said matter most.
- Specifically, how is the Academy helping you in your career?
- How is the Academy helping you navigate complex practice management issues?
- How is the Academy helping you provide optimal patient care and practice to the top of your license?
Please take a few minutes and complete the member survey (the survey will be sent to you later today so look for it in your email inbox). With just a few questions and a few minutes from you, we want you to share your thoughts on your Academy membership.
I hope to see you at AAA 2024+HearTECH Expo, April 17-20, in Atlanta; this is our flagship event in terms of education and engagement.
