While creating greater interprofessional collaboration, health-care providers should look for ways to make the patient experience as seamless as possible. According to Dr. Irum Tahir, owner and CEO of Ignite the Spark, LLC., having available financial solutions that make it easy for patients referred from other providers to pay out-of-pocket costs is an important part of building a strong network of collaborative healthcare professionals.
“As providers start to bring in new patients through physician referrals and other collaborative efforts, they must make sure they have a system in place that lets patients comfortably pay for care,” explained Dr. Tahir. “Especially if you don’t take insurance, if the patient doesn’t have insurance or if insurance doesn’t cover recommended care. I think one of the biggest things your practice can do to help patients is implement something like the CareCredit health-care credit card. Many existing referred patients may already have CareCredit for use at other health-care providers to pay out-of-pocket costs, including co-insurance or deductibles. Having it available at your practice can help create a seamless transition that allows patients to get the care they want and need.”
