On Founder’s Day (January 30), it is only fitting to review a new memoir, A Life in Audiology (ISBN 978-1-94488-368-3) authored by the Academy’s Founder, Dr. James Jerger. Transparency in Hearing Aid Dispensing

As highlighted in the recent report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (June 2016), it is common for patients to be confused by the costs associated with the acquisition of a hearing aid.  Separating or itemizing the cost of the device from the cost of services creates increased transparency for patients and highlights the professional components of the dispensing process.

Experience Requirement for Nomination to Board or President

There has been considerable discussion over the past few weeks regarding a change to the policies and procedures for nomination to the Board of the Academy. Primarily, there has been concern expressed about the 10-year experiential requirement to the Board and the 15-year experiential requirement for nomination for President. The primary concern has been that this requirement excludes younger professionals from serving on the Board, some of who may have experiences that are felt to prepare them for service at this level.

Apple’s New iPhone 7: What’s the Effect on HA Service and Delivery?

On September 7, Apple introduced the iPhone 7 smartphone, which was largely regarded by tech reporters as a “ho-hum” event, except for the excitement surrounding what was missing: the 3.5-mm phone jack. Although they announced that the “lightning” cable could now carry audio-by-wire, they also announced the AirPod wireless headphones, along with the Bragi Dash, Samsung Gear IconX, and several other devices that have become to be called “hearables” for their ability to stream audio and monitor biometric information.
